Second sapling-planting drive on Attur Road this Sunday; volunteers invited

Two weeks after 500 saplings were planted along Attur Road and around the municipal park, a residents' welfare association and a group of college students will extend the drive this Sunday with 300 more neem, pongamia and jamun saplings on the outer stretch of Attur Road towards the bypass, starting at 6:30 am. Organisers said more than 470 of the saplings from the first phase are doing well, thanks to the families who water them every morning. Each new sapling will get a metal tree guard and a caretaker family, recorded in the association's register. Anyone interested can join with a pair of gloves and a watering can; saplings, tools and breakfast will be provided by the organisers. Schoolchildren must come with a parent. The organisers plan similar drives on Namakkal Road and around the shandy ground in the coming months.
