Pothole-ridden market lane relaid after residents' repeated requests

The narrow market lane connecting the vegetable market to the main bazaar has been relaid with a fresh layer of bitumen, bringing relief to shopkeepers and residents who had struggled with potholes and waterlogging for over a year. The 650-metre stretch was first levelled and a new storm-water drain was built along one side so that rainwater no longer collects in front of shops. The work was completed in eight days, mostly at night to avoid disturbing trade. Traders said that customers who had stopped using the lane during the rains were already returning. Two-wheeler riders have been asked not to park on the drain covers. Residents of three other streets in the area have submitted similar requests, which the municipality said would be considered in the next round of road works.
