420 new LED streetlights brighten nine wards

The municipality has installed 420 new LED streetlight fittings across nine wards, replacing old tube lights and sodium lamps on residential streets, school routes and the approach roads to the shandy ground. The new fittings use less than half the power of the old lamps and are switched on and off automatically by timers. Dark stretches on the railway station road and behind the government school, where residents had complained of poor lighting, were covered first. The remaining wards will be taken up in the next phase, which is expected to begin after the monsoon. Around 600 more fittings are planned. Residents can report a non-working streetlight through the civic issue option in the app or at the municipal office, mentioning the pole location. Repairs are usually attended to within 48 hours.
