Underground drainage work on Salem Road enters final phase

விளம்பரம் · SponsoredThe underground drainage project along Salem Road has entered its final phase, with pipe-laying completed on 1.8 km of the 2.4 km stretch between the bus stand junction and the new bypass, municipal engineering staff said.
The remaining stretch, including manhole chambers and house-service connections, is expected to be finished within five weeks if the weather holds. Road restoration will follow immediately after each section is tested.
During the work, one lane marked with barricades stays open for two-wheelers and autos, and heavy vehicles are advised to use the bypass during the day. A new storm-water drain will also be built along the eastern side of the road; the traffic diversion for that work will be announced separately.
Shopkeepers along the road have asked for the restoration to be completed before the Pongal season. Residents who have not yet applied for a house-service connection can do so at the municipal office.
